Allow me to introduce you to one of the most dynamic and important theologians of our time: N.T. (Tom) Wright. Wright is the Bishop of Durham, a committed Christian (which is important to note considering that the last Bishop of Durham publicly denied the resurrection!), and a scholar. Most of Wrightâ€™s previous work has been in the academy discussing Pauline theology and the importance of studying the historical Jesus, debating the people involved in the â€œJesus Seminar,â€ and developing creative ways in which Christians and the church should understand the far-reaching implications of what it means to be Jesus for the world.
In the scholarly world he is writing a five-volume set concerning â€œChristian Origins and the Question of God.â€ Three of these crucial books are completed, the last of which (ironically?) is a defense of the â€œResurrection of the Son of God.â€ In a time when too much of youth ministry is often concerned more with â€œmethodâ€ than reason, Wrightâ€™s books are essential to get us on track, bringing scholarship back to the church.
Although he is deeply engaged in issues surrounding scholarsâ€™ perceptions of Christianity, he doesnâ€™t believe that a historically grounded understanding of Jesusâ€™ message should stay in the â€œivory tower.â€ To this end, Wright has offered an invaluable resource: the â€¦ for Everyone series (published by SPCK,
