On this Good Friday, I want to share with you what I call a parent’s version of the Book of Common Prayer’s Good Friday prayer. Gracious God, the comfort of all who sorrow, the strength of all who suffer: Let the cry of those of our children in misery and need come to you, that they may find your mercy present with them in all their afflictions; and give us, we pray, the strength to serve our children for the sake of him who suffered for us, your Son Jesus, Christ our Lord. Let us pray for our children who have not received the Gospel of Christ; That they would hear the word of salvation. That you would make yourself known to those who have walked away from the faith. That you would soften the hearts of those hardened by sin or indifference. Heavenly Father, we ask that you would open their hearts to the truth, and lead them to faith and obedience. Fill us as parents with the hope of the resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ, and may we never cease to love and pray for our children.
