Cheating, Plagiarism, and AI

The dictionary defines plagiarism as the act of using another person’s words, ideas, or intellectual property and presenting them as your own original work without proper attribution. In the academic world, it’s a violation of integrity and a type of cheating. As someone who has been a student and who teaches students, I am well familiar with the need to adopt the highest standards of academic integrity. I know that the best learning comes when we do all the necessary research and writing ourselves. In today’s academic world, from elementary school up through post-graduate education, more and more students are caving to the temptation to use Ai to not only do all the research, but to do all the writing as well. One graduate professor I know says that since the advent of Ai, the quality of his student’s writing has improved dramatically. He’s justifiably concerned about his student’s honesty. Teach your kids that as Proverbs eleven three says, “The integrity of the upright guides them.”
