Children are a Gift

On this thanksgiving day, I want to tell you about a moment when I felt incredible gratitude towards God. It was on a cold December night way back in 1983. That was the night when the first of our four children was born. First and foremost, I was incredibly grateful for my wife as I watched her endure the pains and work of childbirth. It was beyond impressive. And second, I was filled with overwhelming joy and thanks giving as I laid eyes on my first child for the very first time. I couldn’t sleep at all that night due to the excitement. I remember looking at my daughter and asking God, “What did I ever do to deserve this?!?” She was a gift. As with all my children, that little baby started to grow up. And by the time she reached her teenage years we would from time to time knock heads. Truth be told, there were moments where I asked the Lord, “What did I ever do to deserve this?!?” Parents, the bible tells us that our children are a gift from the Lord. And once a gift, always a gift!
