It’s not surprising that much of the research being conducted on physical and mental health these days is focused on the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. One of those studies comes to us from the Stanford University School of Medicine and it has found a connection between the use of electronic cigarettes and susceptibility to the coronavirus. Teens and young adults ages thirteen to twenty-four who vape are five times more likely to become infected with the coronavirus compared with those who did not use electronic cigarettes. Researchers attribute this to a variety of factors, including a compromised immune system, transmission of the virus through sharing e-cigarettes, and touching your face as you smoke. My guess is that as you share these facts with kids who choose to vape, their bent towards feeling invulnerable will evidence itself with some pushback. While health risks should be shared, ultimately we want to teach our kids to care for their bodies as an act of worship.
