School is back in session. And, it looks nothing like it did last year at this time. Teachers, administrators, and parents are having to navigate all kinds of challenges and changes. Our students are struggling as well. I recently spoke to a teacher who had tears in her eyes when she described watching a new elementary school student, already filled with jitters, arrive wide-eyed and fearful for his first day of school only to be greeted by a teacher wearing a mask. The stories of difficulty for everyone are seemingly endless. Our response to these difficulties reveals the bent of our hearts. For the Christian, we need to fight our inclination to bitterly complain, and run to our Heavenly Father. Parents, do you remember that old song “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”? There’s a line that’s been screaming at me over the last few months: “Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged. Take it to the Lord in Prayer.” Sing it to yourself, and teach it to your kids.
