“Today, there is an epidemic of pornography.” Those are the first seven words in Tim Chester’s very helpful book, “Closing the Window: Steps to Living Porn Free.” Chester says there are two factors behind the growth of our pornified culture. First, there are the increasingly permissive attitudes in our society. In today’s world, we watch things, dress ourselves, and live in ways that no prior generation ever did. The second factor behind the acceleration of pornography is the glut of new technology that can deliver porn into the quiet and sheltered place we call home. No longer does a person have to nervously pay a cashier for a dirty magazine if they want to secure pornography. In fact, in today’s world, you don’t even have to go searching for pornography. You can find it right in your own home. Chester says that the first step in beating porn addiction is to hate porn, and long for change. For the rest of this week, we’ll look at some of Chester’s reasons to give up porn.
