All this week we’re looking at Tim Chester’s book, “Closing the Window: Steps To Living Porn Free” – and his list of reasons for why we should give up porn. With the possibility that one in three people in your church are struggling with porn, this issues deserves our attention. Chester makes a compelling case for the fact that porn wrecks our view of sex. Pornographic sex is not real sex. Watching porn radically distorts our expectations of sex, dulling one’s appetite for real sex, while ratcheting up the appetite for even more extreme fantasy sex. Chester says that pornography damages us deeply, including detaching our view of sex from relationships and intimacy. You see, sex as God intended it is a celebration of a real relationship between a man and a woman within the context of marriage. In today’s world, it’s a sad and alarming fact that far too many men, women, and children are getting their sex education from pornography. It teaches nothing about good sex.
