One of the most haunting verses in Scripture is one that we should ponder if we care about the spiritual growth and development of our kids. It’s found in the book of Judges, Chapter two, verse ten. The Israelites have crossed into the promised land of Canaan and their leader, Joshua, had died. And then we read this: And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord or the work that He had done for Israel.” Whenever I read that passage I wonder to myself, How could this have happened? The reality is that when one generation fails to nurture the next generation in the Lord, that next generation will be prone to turn their backs on God and follow their own hearts into serving and worshipping other Gods. Here’s the takeaway: it only takes a generation to lose a generation. The most important task that we have is to lead our children to a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
