Proverbs ten twenty-five states a truth that should shape our lives, our parenting, and our youth ministries. It says, when the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away, but the godly have a lasting foundation.” At the end of the sermon on the mount, Jesus speaks of the wise and foolish builders and how their respective homes weather the storms of life. Both of the builders hear the word of God and both of them face the same storm. But one house stands and one house falls. It’s the one who hears and obeys the word who is able to weather and withstand the difficult storms that are inevitable in all of our lives. Parents, if you are working to prepare your kids to live their lives to God’s glory, they need to know that life is not easy. Difficulties will come. And, they need to know that God has revealed the key to weathering life’s storms. Fill your children’s lives with the truths of God’s Word. Teach them to treasure God’s word as the foundation of life.
