A blessed and happy New Year to you! 2023 is now in the past and we look forward with great expectation and perhaps a bit of trepidation to 2024. Today is a perfect day for you to sit with your kids and talk about the days in which we live, the reasonable expectations we must have, and where to find our hope. I’ve gotten into the habit of using each and every New Year’s Day to pause and pray. I thank the Lord for another year. I ask his blessing on my family. I ask Him to protect us from harm and to provide for our well-being. And, because our world is filled with brokenness, there will be unexpected bumps in the road during the coming year. I ask the Lord to prepare me to handle whatever may come. Perhaps today you can share these words from Psalm thirty-three with your family: Our soul waits for the Lord. He is our help and shield. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you.
