There have always been distractions in the world that grab our attention, taking it away from keeping our eyes on the author and perfector of our faith, Jesus Christ. We need to not only be aware that these distractions exist, but we need to realize that the sinful bent of our own hearts is always working to move our worshipful gaze away from the one true God, so that our eyes, minds, and hearts might settle on worshipping created things. For our kids growing up in today’s world, the twenty-four seven onslaught of information, images, and distractions make it especially hard to faithfully follow Christ. We need to teach our kids the prayer of David that we read in Psalm twenty-seven four: One thing I ask of the Lord, and this is what I seek, that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple. Pray this same prayer for yourself, asking God to forgive you for all the things you’ve chased after, in place of Him.
