Several years ago I met and chatted with Dr. Meg Meeker, a pediatrician and mom who is an expert on teenage sexuality. At the time, Meg had written extensively on teens and the epidemic of sexually transmitted diseases. She had even been summoned by Congress to share her findings in congressional hearings. Dr. Meeker is now speaking on the dangers of teen sexuality, and is working to help parents understand that teen sex is linked to depression, precisely because kids don’t have the emotional maturity for physical relationships. In addition, she shares some stats on STD’s that are worth passing on to your kids. First, there are now thirty-five known STDs. In 1960 there were only two. While today’s teens make up one-third of the U.S. population, they carry fifty percent of STDs. And finally, one in four teens has an STD. Over eighty percent of those infections have no symptoms, meaning they go undetected. Parents, encourage your kids to honor God by waiting until marriage.
