Parents, are you teaching your kids that this life is not all that there is? Are you teaching them to live in the here and now in light of eternity? There’s a question and answer in the old Heidelberg Catechism that is worth teaching and talking about with your kids. The Question is Question number thirty-two, “But why are you called a Christian?”

The Catechism provides an answer that reminds us of the glorious fact of whose we are, what we are, how we are to live in this world, and the beautiful reality of what we have to look forward to when life on this earth ends. The answer reads, “Because by faith I am a member of Christ and so I share in his anointing. I am anointed to confess his name, to present myself to him as a living sacrifice of thanks, to strive with a good conscience against sin and the devil in this life, and afterward to reign with Christ over all creation for all eternity.”

We are called to live truly counter-cultural lives. This is a truth we must teach.
