In a recent article on high school students and cheating, Dr. Carl Pickhardt reminds parents of our need to teach our kids that cheating is essentially lying, and that it is always wrong. You see, the data tells us that many high school students have tried cheating. They’ve copied homework. They’ve plagiarized content by copying and pasting from what they find on the internet. They bring cheat sheets into their exams and even use their smartphones to cheat and find answers. In today’s world, our kids find cheating increasingly easy to justify. After all, when you come to believe that what’s right is what works, cheating behavior is at the very least neutral. Kids justify cheating as a way to get ahead. And when we as parents push our kids to get ahead academically, we can very easily feed their cheating behaviors. Teach and model the truths of Proverbs 10:9 – People with integrity walk safely, but those who follow crooked paths will slip and fall.  Help your kids to stand firm on God’s truth.
