Our kids are growing up in a world where pornography is pervasive. Seeing pornography is not a matter of if, but a matter of when. If they don’t find pornography on their own, it is bound to find them while they are engaging with their smartphones and computers. Because our kids are created by God as sexual beings with desires that have been put there by Him, they are prone to seeking out and actually becoming addicted to pornography, which is a fallen expression of God’s good gift of sexuality. Those who choose to indulge their sexual lust through pornography use do damage to their brains in ways that result in what is now called porn brain. Research tells us that looking at pornography triggers unnaturally high levels of dopamine secretion. This damages the dopamine reward system, leaving it unresponsive to natural sources of pleasure. Pornography is part of our sinful and fallen world. Teach your kids that it’s not the way it’s supposed to be, and it will harm them deeply.
