I’m guessing that we’d all be hard-pressed to remember one teacher from our childhood who never said, “No talking in class!” Educators from K to twelve know that learning requires focus and concentration. When distractions arise, learning is compromised. Remove the distractions, and more effective learning takes place. For that reason, it’s no surprise that during the pandemic, college students who had to resort to remote learning struggled with concentration, as remote learning typically took place in a distraction filled home. In addition, one survey of parents of children between the ages of eight and thirteen reports that the average parent believes their child has regressed two whole grade levels as a result of having to resort to remote learning. This reality hammers home our need to reduce distractions and multi-tasking as our kids engage with their studies. God wants us to develop our minds. A distraction-free environment helps that process.
