Over the last few years you’ve probably heard the arguments, pro and con, about the legalization of marijuana for recreational use. A study out of the state of California has looked at trends in marijuana use since the drug was first legalized in the state back in 2016. Researchers analyzed data from more than three million seventh, ninth, and eleventh graders, who answered questions about their marijuana use from the 2010-2011 school year, up until 2018-2019. The research found that between the 2017-2018 school year and the 2018 to 2019 school years, a time after pot was legalized for adults, marijuana use by kids over the past thirty days grew twenty-three percent. In addition, the likelihood of lifetime marijuana use rose by eighteen percent. These trends are alarming. In the past, we’ve discussed the dangers of illicit drug use, especially for those whose brains are developing during adolescence. Parents, regularly talk to your kids about the legal, physical, and spiritual reasons to avoid drugs.
