Our world is a broken place. Things are not the way God intended them to be. This reality is clearly evidenced in the rise and spread of dating violence. This includes being physically abused, sexually abused, or experiencing threats of physical harm. One of our responsibilities is to protect our kids from dating violence by helping them to understand the signs of an unhealthy relationship. These include insults and name-calling, threats and intimidation, and being told what to wear, what to do, and how to act. Other signs include an inability to control one’s anger, serious drug and alcohol use, and a history of violent behavior. In addition, dating violence is often perpetrated by someone who is possessive, preventing you from spending time with your family and friends. God wants all our relationships to reflect the love evidenced within the relationship of the Trinity. Warn your kids about dating violence and its signs.
