According to new data from the Pew Internet and Life Project, sixty-four percent of Americans say that social media has a mostly negative effect on the way things are going in the United States today. Only ten percent of Americans say that social media sites are having a mostly positive effect on the way things are going. The remaining twenty five percent of Americans believe that social media has neither a positive or negative effect. Judging from what I’m seeing, hearing, and experiencing on social media, I would fall into the sixty four percent. And, I’m concerned that our kids are growing up in a world where social media is largely a playground filled with negativity, including things like bullying and almost endless arguing. Parents, your kids will be engaging with social media for the rest of their lives. Now is the time to teach them how to follow Jesus onto the social media landscape. Teach them that they should exercise a redemptive presence that consistently brings glory to God.
