Even though we’re currently in the middle of the winter months, it’s not too early to start thinking about the summer. Perhaps you’re already looking ahead and planning a summer vacation during the months when your kids are out of school. Let me encourage you to also start thinking about and planning a summer activity that will be of great benefit to your kids. One of the marks of this emerging generation of teenagers is a willingness and desire to help others and to get involved in a variety of social causes. This is a good sign and something that we can’t let slip through the cracks without seizing upon it. Involvement in missions and service projects not only combats the powerful influence of materialism in our kids’ lives, but it also helps to grow and cement their faith in Christ. Kids benefit greatly from the opportunity to serve Christ by serving others. Start thinking now about this summer, making plans to give your kids the chance to participate in a short-term mission project.
