Recently, there’s been a lot of debate regarding whether or not the social media app TikTok is appropriate for teenagers. The video sharing app has come under lots of criticism regarding the spread of inappropriate content, as well as its addictive nature. The nonprofit Center for Countering Digital Hate has found that harmful TikTok content related to suicide and eating disorders can find users within minutes of setting up an account. Researchers found that it can take under three minutes for the user to see content related to suicide, and just about five more minutes to be exposed to a community promoting eating disorder content. With so many of our kids going to social media to find information on their mental health and body image, there is warranted concern, especially for our younger teenage girls. Parents, teach your kids to find their identity in who they in Christ. And point them to the One who has promised to bear their burdens and anxieties.
