In his sermon on the mount, Jesus offered a very clear picture of the two options we all have as we travel through life on this earth. He said, “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” As I read and ponder those words I feel a mixture of great joy and great sadness. My joy comes from having experienced the grace of God that has called me onto the narrow path. My sadness comes from knowing friends and family who have chosen the path to destruction. And so, I share this short prayer from Scotty Smith: “Holy Spirit, for our family members and friends who are living like destructive idiots and senseless morons, do whatever it takes to save them from themselves. Arrest them in their foolishness and spare them with the fullness of your grace. To the meadows of their madness, bring the grandeur of your goodness.”
