Kids, Parents, & Smartphone Addiction. . . A Helpful Infographic. . .

Later this morning I’m headed into the CPYU studio to interview tech expert and author Chris Martin for an upcoming episode of our Youth Culture Matters podcast. Chris has written a fantastic new book, Terms of Service: The Real Cost of Social MediaI’m excited to chat with Chris as he’s doing the kind of thinking about culture – Christianly and critically – that we are all about here at CPYU. As I was prepping to chat with Chris, I ran across this helpful infographic which forces us to jump out of stupor to see what’s really happening with our kids, our parents, and yes. . . ourselves.

  1. Would you mind citing your sources or explaining the methodology for your survey? The infographics are well-made and informative, but it is incredibly easy in this digital age to make up or find inaccurate information.

    1. These infographics come from Slicktext. . . a texting platform marketing firm. . . you can check on these and more, along with a summary of their sources, here: https://www.slicktext.com/blog/2019/10/smartphone-addiction-statistics/

We pulled these up in prep for a conversation we recorded earlier this week with Chris Martin on his new book “Terms of Service”. The Youth Culture Matters episode will drop in a week or two. Great book. We mentioned there that stats on usage are very fluid and vary from study to study. Some of the best research (which Slicktext draws from for the infographic) that we have been utilizing over the last 15 years comes from Pew. Check them out here. . . https://www.pewresearch.org/internet/fact-sheet/mobile/
