Things were once the way they were supposed to be. Things are not now the way they are supposed to be. One day, all things will be restored to the way they are supposed to be. . . and that, for eternity.
Those previous three sentences summarize so much of the perspective we need to have on all things in life, including matters of sexuality and gender. It’s the perspective shaped by the biblical story where God created all things according to His perfect will land design, and Shalom existed in the Garden. Humankind’s sinful rebellion against God disrupted God’s Shalom, leaving all things in life broken and marred by sin. But one day the promised restoration of all things will happen! While followers of Christ are called to pursue Holy Shalom-marked living in areas of sex and gender, we know that the struggles still exist. We all face them in some way, shape, or form.
One of the most tender, sensitive, and confusing contemporary issues related to gender is the rise of the transgender ideology, and the manner in which that ideology has taken hold in so many young lives, leaving the most developmentally vulnerable to consider and choose gender options outside of the way they’ve been created by God.
The recent book, The Detransition Diaries, and the film of same name, offer those of us who desire to lead kids into living into God’s gender design insights into how and why so many are choosing to take steps to transition. But now, realizing the mistakes they’ve made and the unfulfilled promise that their transition would resolve their problems and bring peace, a growing army of detransitioners are speaking out to warn others of the physical, emotional, relational, and spiritual dangers of pursuing what’s known as “gender reassignment” and “gender transitioning.” The book and film are good, and I can’t recommend them highly enough.
We’re going to be hearing more and more of these stories. And now is the time to know the truth and teach the truth to our kids. That’s why I sat down to have a conversation with film-maker and author, Kallie Fell, to talk about the work of The Center for Bioethics and Culture, and what they’ve learned in their work on The Detransition Diaries on our latest episode of our Youth Culture Matters podcast.
I invite you to listen in on our compelling and most helpful conversation, as it will shape the ways in which you love and lead kids with truth and grace.
And, if you’re looking for an opportunity to come together with others in order to learn how to best minister to kids in today’s world, consider joining me and Duffy Robbins this coming November for our sixth CPYU Symposium on Traditional Biblical Sexuality in a Changing Youth Culture.
