In, but not of the world. . . starting the day with the Bible in one hand and the newspaper in the other. . . listening to the Word and world to know how to bring the light of the Word into the dark world. . . these are all descriptors of the task of the disciple. And a regular part of my “listening to the world” routine is an everyday look at the comic page of our local newspaper. Those who create the comics sometimes have a keen eye to what’s happening in our world and how to open the eyes of others to those happenings. There can be some good cultural critique in the comics.
This morning’s comic page included these five comics. . . all of them offering some insight into how technology is altering our lives. Perhaps they’ll spark a chuckle, some healthy introspection, a much-needed conversation, or even some ministry efforts. So, here they are. . . today’s Speedbump, Garfield, Dustin, Bound and Gagged, and One Big Happy. . .
